FYI!
As our College Lab facilitator and attendance Clerk, Ms. Alston is invaluable in keeping in touch with all our scholars. She has a rapport with students that is unmatched; they trust her and share information with her that they might not ever share with other teachers and/or staff. Our scholars trust her and in return, she is there to help them when they need her; in, or outside of school. Ms. Alston also covers every support task we have: at the beginning of the day, she is outside to check scholars’ temperatures; supervises our scholars to make sure they are safe during lunch, and helps them to safely get outdoors for a much-needed
mask break. She is invaluable and makes every other aspect of our school run well. One of our scholars commented, “Ms. Alston encourages us to do better and to become better scholars. She has made a rough school year much better for us.” Ms. Alston truly embodies the words of Rita Pierson, “Every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best
that they can possibly be.”
Mrs. Bender is an excellent educator that widens the horizons of our scholars by providing
invaluable opportunities for them to meet, and interact, with people outside of Warren County that are experts in their field. She truly believes that scholars can't be what they can't see. Mrs. Bender has also developed intentional relationships with our scholars that
encourages them to participate more and respond positively because they know that she genuinely cares about them. She is not afraid of challenges and fully embraces change. This year, she has become an expert at Pear Deck and she is always willing to share all that she has learned with her colleagues. From our scholars: Mrs. Bender always has a smile on her face when our class starts. She is patient, kind, and somehow manages to make sure that we are always on track. She's a great teacher who helps us reach our full potential and we are so grateful to have her. In the words of Walter Ward, “The mediocre
teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires!”
