Today is School Nurse Day! It’d take much more than a single day to adequately celebrate our School Nurses! These professionals have been non-stop throughout the Pandemic... caring for students and staff, contact tracing COVID cases, connecting families to school and community resources, helping manage chronic conditions, training staff, administering medications, creating health guidelines for the district, coordinating with local, state and federal health officials, and the list goes on and on.
Thank your school nurse for helping keep our schools open, helping keep our students and staff healthy, and their commitment to staying and working in Warren County to serve our families. #SND2022 #EverydayHeroes #WarrenProud #ThankANurse #SchoolNursesTeachUsAll

Principal Lewis has been engaging students in unique dissections over the past few days. The lessons are standards-based and aligned with the North Carolina Biology curriculum. The focus of the lessons are Evolution and Natural Selection: Survival of the Fittest. Students observed the physical adaptations of three organisms: the jellyfish, the frog, and snake. Students explained why each animal was suited for survival in their environment. One of our favorite student responses was, "Jellyfish have soft bodies, so they must use their stinging tentacles as a defense mechanism. Their clear body plans allow them to camouflage from predators."

Warren County High School invited two authors from Latin America who were part of the Second Hispanic Heritage Book Fair which took place in Henderson, NC. Authors Claudia Zamora (Argentina) and Andrea Armijos (Ecuador), shared their unique experiences with literature and showed their pride and passion for some of their beloved books. In addition, a huge celebration was held during National Poetry Month. The Spanish classes wrote bilingual poems around the question 'Who am I?' They also read poetry from iconic Latin American poets: Pablo Neruda, Chile and Eugenio Montejo,Venezuela. Last but not least, the Spanish I and II classes participated in the Dear Poet initiative by the Academy of American Poets. The students wrote letters to the laureate poet Magdalena Gomez and participated in a metaphor workshop that was both educational and fun.

On the most recent Early Release Day, WCHS teachers participated in a professional development entitled, "Pedagogy and Classroom Culture." Teachers collaborated and shared instructional best practices, and worked together to unpack state standards. Principal Lewis designed and facilitated the PD, while teacher leaders presented and shared strategies. We are sending a huge shoutout to Ms. Jordan, Mrs. Watson-Williams, Ms. Welch, and Ms. Hargrove on their wonderful presentations!
